Alan E. Garfield is a Professor at Widener University Delaware Law School. He holds a B.A. from Brandeis University and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law, with prior litigation experience at Weil, Gotshal & Manges. His work focuses on Constitutional Law, Copyright, and Contracts, with scholarship in journals like Columbia Law Review Sidebar and Wake Forest Law Review Online. He co-authored the casebook The First Amendment: A Contemporary Approach (2024) and has published extensively on Supreme Court jurisprudence.

Professor Garfield co-founded the Delaware Law School Patent Pro Bono Program and chaired the AALS Section on Mass Communication Law. He served on the Delaware ACLU Board for 17 years, including as President (2015-2017), and currently leads the Jewish Social Policy Action Network Board of Directors.
