Dr. Alan D. D'Andrea is the Fuller-American Cancer Society Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and Director of both the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers and the Center for DNA Damage and Repair at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. An internationally recognized leader in DNA repair mechanisms, his research focuses on Fanconi anemia and cancer susceptibility syndromes.
D'Andrea cloned the erythropoietin receptor and identified key DNA repair pathway components defective in Fanconi anemia. His laboratory develops synthetic lethal approaches targeting DNA repair deficiencies in cancers, discovering POLQ and USP1 inhibitors that overcome PARP inhibitor resistance. Honors include election to National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Medicine, and American Association for Cancer Research Academy.
As director of premier research centers, D'Andrea oversees translational programs in women's cancers and DNA repair targeting. His work bridges basic discovery in chromosome instability with therapeutic development for treatment-resistant cancers.
