معرفی
Alan Baxter is an Adjunct Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology and Director of the Comparative Genomics Centre at James Cook University. He holds a PhD in immunogenetics from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and has held roles at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge University. His research focuses on autoimmune disease genetics, particularly the interplay between genetic factors and environmental triggers in conditions like multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, and lupus. He leads the Autoimmunity Research Group at the Centenary Institute and has pioneered studies on NKT cell biology and gene-environment interactions.
Key affiliations include:
- Adjunct Professor, James Cook University
- Former Research Fellow, Harvard Medical School
- Former Trinity College Cambridge Supervisor in Pathology
- Director, Comparative Genomics Centre
Research priorities include:
- Genetic contributors to autoimmune diseases
- NKT cell immunobiology
- Transcriptomic analysis of immune cell subsets
- Indigenous lung cancer genomics
Notable projects include genomic studies of lung cancer in North Queensland Indigenous populations and transcriptomic approaches to multiple sclerosis pathogenesis. His work is funded by JCU, MSRA, and Queensland Health departments. Baxter has held leadership roles in immunology societies including Australasian Society for Immunology (2006-2008) and International Union of Immunological Societies (2013-2017).
