Akua Banful is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis, specializing in climate, culture, and empire through interdisciplinary lenses. Her research bridges colonial/postcolonial literary studies, African and Black diasporic cultural production, climate arts, and political theory.

Her current book project, Constructing the Tropics: Empire and Ideologies of Climate, analyzes climate narratives in African, Latin American, and Caribbean literature. She has published in The Senses and Society, The Journal of Literature and Medicine, and Los Angeles Review of Books.
