Akke S.J. Suiker is a Full Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), leading the Applied Mechanics group within the Department of the Built Environment. Previously, he held roles at Delft University of Technology, including Assistant Professor (2001–2008) and Associate Professor (2008–2011). He earned his MSc (Civil Engineering) and PhD (Applied Mechanics) from TU Delft, with postdocs at the University of Massachusetts and Cambridge University. His research focuses on multi-scale modeling of material failure, deformation, and multi-physics interactions in the built environment. Key areas include 3D printing, historical artifacts conservation, wind turbine design, and granular materials. He has authored over 140 publications and led projects such as High-Performance 3D Concrete Printing and NESCOP (sewer system degradation analysis). Awards include 'Best Lecturer' at TU Delft (2010) and multiple teaching excellence recognitions at TU/e.
Research interests span computational mechanics, material science, and structural engineering. Notable contributions include chemo-mechanical degradation models for paintings and optimization frameworks for wind turbines. He has supervised 58 research works and is a guest editor for Philosophical Magazine. His work aligns with UN SDGs, addressing sustainable infrastructure and conservation.
