Akil DuPont

Akil DuPont is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Media & Communication Arts at Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, Pace University, Pleasantville campus. He is an accomplished storyteller in theatre and film, with extensive creative output and national recognition.

His research and creative works are deeply rooted in artistic expression, particularly in African American narratives and historical themes. Notably, his award-winning work Underground, adapted from his 2010 short film, has been showcased in over 50 film festivals worldwide, earning over 40 awards including two Student Emmys. The musical explores the emotional and spiritual dimensions of slavery, freedom, and family through song and performance.

His teaching portfolio includes key courses such as COM 200: Public Speaking, MCA 252: Media Production I, MCA 276: Story Idea Development, MCA 356: Digital Editing Workshop I-Intro, MCA 360: Screenwriting, and MCA 383: Producing Online Digital Media, reflecting his expertise in media creation and narrative development.

His artistic achievements include festival recognitions and productions across the U.S., including performances at Stony Brook University Southampton. He actively leads new productions through DuPont Productions, LLC, and engages in public outreach through film, theatre, and photography.

As an educator and creative professional, Akil DuPont mentors students through course instruction and real-world artistic projects. He is currently preparing a major theatrical run of Underground in January–February 2025 at Stony Brook University Southampton. He is actively involved in multiple creative domains including film, theatre, photography (covering fashion, concerts, editorials, and behind-the-scenes), and digital media production. His upcoming production of Underground continues to expand the reach of historically grounded, musically rich storytelling in academic and public spaces.
