Dr. Akiko Yasuike serves as Professor of Sociology at California Lutheran University and is affiliated with the Global Studies Program. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on families, immigration, global issues, and applied sociology featuring required internships for career development. Every three years, she co-leads a two-week Japan travel seminar introducing students to Japanese society and media, leveraging her bicultural background as an immigrant educated in both Japan and the United States.
Her research centers on expatriate and immigrant integration in Los Angeles, with three key trajectories: gender relation reconstruction among Japanese couples in Southern California; experiences of undocumented immigrants culturally assimilated through U.S. upbringing; and current investigations into Japanese return migration patterns. These studies reflect her expertise in Immigration, Families, Gender, Asian Americans, Ethnic Identities, Globalization, and Japanese Society.
