معرفی
Akihiko Terada is an Associate Professor at Tokyo University of Science's Volcano and Earthquake Research Department, where he leads the Kusatsu-Shirane Volcano Observatory. His research bridges volcanology, geophysics, and drone technology, focusing on hydrothermal systems and eruption mechanisms. He has held positions at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kyoto University, and Hokkaido University, with part-time roles at Kanagawa Prefecture Hot Spring Institute and the University of Tokyo.
Terada's work centers on developing innovative monitoring techniques, including drone-based gas sampling and thermal imaging, to study high-risk volcanoes like Kusatsu-Shirane and Aso. His team analyzes crater lake dynamics, magmatic-hydrothermal interactions, and phreatic eruption precursors. Recent articles emphasize quantitative modeling of volcanic unrest and historical eruption reconstruction using interdisciplinary methods.
He has secured significant grants, including JSPS funding for projects like 'Development of volcano monitoring using soil gas' (2025–2019) and 'Assessment of phreatic eruption urgency via electromagnetic surveys' (2023–2024). His outreach includes lectures for schools, disaster agencies, and media programs like NHK's 'Science Zero'.
