Dr. Aixi Zhou is the Vice Provost for Research & Innovation and a Professor of Engineering at Norfolk State University. Previously, he served as Department Chair of Applied Engineering Technology at North Carolina A&T State University (2018–2024) and Professor of Fire Protection at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2007–2018). His expertise spans fire engineering, materials science, manufacturing, and engineering education. He has secured over $9M in research funding as lead or co-PI, including directing the DoD-sponsored ACE machine tools hub. Dr. Zhou authored/co-authored three books, over 100 technical publications, and holds a Professional Engineer license in fire protection. He is a SFPE Fellow and serves on committees for ASCE, SFPE, and the National Academies.
