Dr. Aiora Zabala serves as Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge's Department of Land Economy and Director of the MSt in Climate, Environmental and Urban Policy program. She is a Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (CEENRG) and a member of Clare Hall college. Previously, she held positions as Lecturer at the Open University and Senior Editor at Nature Sustainability (2017-2021).

Her research focuses on environmental governance and sustainability policy implementation, particularly examining policy instrument effectiveness, adoption of innovative land-use practices, and behavioral change drivers. With extensive field experience in Spain, the UK, South Africa, Mexico and Indonesia, her work addresses critical issues including protected area governance, sustainable agriculture transitions, and digitalization's socio-environmental impacts. Her methodological expertise includes Q methodology and ecosystem service modeling.
Dr. Zabala's publication record spans high-impact journals including Global Environmental Change, Land Use Policy, and Ecological Economics, with recent work addressing plastics treaty negotiations, energy transition policies, and biodiversity conservation challenges. Her editorial experience as Senior Editor at Nature Sustainability and current role on the Ecological Economics Editorial Board demonstrate her significant contribution to environmental scholarship.
