Aimee E. Patel

Dr. Aimee E. Patel serves as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She provides clinical care at Methodist Hospital on the adult/geriatric inpatient unit and with the ECT service, treating patients every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Dr. Patel completed her medical education at Indiana University School of Medicine, with the first two years at the Bloomington campus and the final two years in Indianapolis. She also completed her psychiatry residency at the IU Indianapolis program. Her undergraduate studies were in Biology and Spanish at the University of Notre Dame, and she studied abroad in Spain, Mexico, and Ecuador during her training.

Her research and clinical interests focus on emergency psychiatry, neuromodulation, and disordered eating, with a strong emphasis on community mental health and care for patients with serious mental illness. Dr. Patel is actively involved in medical education, working with all PGY-1 residents for two months during their first year.

Dr. Patel serves as faculty advisor for the IUSM Gold Humanism Honor Society and supervises the IU Student Outreach Clinic, demonstrating her commitment to both professional development and community service. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling with her husband, running half marathons, and reading fiction novels.
