Aikaterini Douka is an Associate Professor in the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at the Faculty of Life Sciences. Her research focuses on Pleistocene archaeology, human evolution, and biomolecular approaches to tracking early human dispersal. She leads projects such as 'RIFT-TO-RIM' and 'DENI-CESTOR,' investigating human migration patterns and genetic relationships between Neanderthals and Denisovans. Key contributions include studies on Neanderthal-Homo sapiens discontinuity in Italy and early Upper Palaeolithic sites in Iran.
- Expertise: Pleistocene archaeology, morphological analysis, biomolecular techniques
- Notable Projects: RIFT-TO-RIM (2025-2030), DENI-CESTOR (2022-2025)
- Research Themes: Human migration, prehistoric tool industries, ancient DNA
Her work integrates archaeological evidence with advanced dating methods to reconstruct hominin evolution. Recent findings include chronological reassessments of prehistoric sites in the Italian Peninsula and Iranian Plateau.
