Aikaterina Karali is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Portsmouth, specializing in biomechanical and materials research. She is affiliated with the Portsmouth Centre for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing.
- Research Focus: Multi-scale mechanical analysis of musculoskeletal tissues, digital volume correlation, and biodegradable magnesium implants
- Collaborations: Active partnerships in dental biomechanics, osteoarthritic cartilage analysis, and ACL strain investigations
Her recent work explores strain dynamics in muscle-tendon junctions, contrast agents for imaging cartilage-bone interfaces, and corrosion performance of biomedical magnesium alloys. She employs advanced techniques like confocal microscopy, XCT mechanics, and electrospun polymer scaffolds.
Karali leads projects on osteoarthritic cartilage analysis (2023-2024) and ACL strain investigations (2023-2024), and contributes to Innovate UK-funded research on resorbable magnesium implants (2022-2024). She has presented at the European Society of Biomechanics Congress (2023) and Trinity College Dublin (2022).
