Aidan Taylor is a Lecturer and Researcher at Cardiff Metropolitan University, specifically within the Cardiff School of Art & Design. He serves as an Associate Tutor in Computer Embedded Design and is a member of the CARIAD research group at the university.
Taylor is a designer maker with industrial experience in small signal electronic design for professional audio and has developed a broad creative practice involving participatory making. He has been researching and participating in the 'Maker Movement' for over a decade and is one of the founders of Newport Makerspace / Creudy Casnewydd.
His research focuses on the social value of making and repair communities in areas experiencing social deprivation in Wales, as part of his ongoing PhD studies. Taylor is Technical Director of HUG by LAUGH, a university spin-out company that developed HUG, an award-winning sensory textile device for people living with advanced dementia.

Taylor lectures in embedded design and repair modules at Cardiff School of Art & Design. He was part of a £424k AHRC-funded research project that resulted in HUG™, which has been prescribed on the NHS following a six-month £185K Welsh Government funded trial showing 87% improved participant wellbeing.
As Technical Director of HUG by LAUGH, Taylor works within a team that has secured £105K capital investment from sources including the UK Alzheimer's Society to meet national and international demand for their product, with thousands of HUGs currently being used in care and home settings throughout the UK.
