Ai Yamamoto is a Sessional Lecturer and PhD Candidate in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Arts.
Her research focuses on modern and contemporary Japanese literature and culture, with particular interest in the relationships between girls' culture, war, and the subject formation of women writers. Her academic work bridges literary analysis, gender studies, and historical examination of Japanese society during periods of social and political transformation.
Dr. Yamamoto's scholarly interests span Japanese literary traditions, cultural studies, and the evolution of women's writing in Japan, particularly examining how female authors navigate and represent cultural identity through their work. Her research contributes to understanding the complex intersections of gender, war experiences, and cultural production in modern Japanese contexts.
As a Sessional Lecturer, she teaches courses related to Japanese language, literature, and culture while completing her doctoral studies at UBC.
