Dr. Ahmed Helmy is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California and has held academic roles at the University of Florida and USC. His research focuses on AI in healthcare, mobility modeling, wireless networks, and network simulation. He co-founded the AI4Health Center and leads the NOMADS Mobile Networking Lab.

He has advised over 20 Ph.D./Master’s students and authored over 200 publications with an H-index of 61.
Awards: IEEE Fellow (2018), ACM Distinguished Scientist (2014), NSF CAREER Award (2002), and multiple best paper awards at IEEE/ACM conferences. His work on the NS-2 network simulator earned the ACM SIGCOMM Networking Systems Award (2020).
He teaches courses on mobile networking and IoT, and his labs (e.g., MobiLib) provide datasets and tools for reproducible research. He collaborates internationally with institutions like Technical University of Munich and Aalto University.
