Dr. Ahmed Elzanaty is a Lecturer in Communication Systems at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the Institute for Communication Systems and the 5G/6G Innovation Centre. He holds a PhD in Electronics, Telecommunications, and Information Technology from the University of Bologna (2018), following B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Port Said University (Egypt). Before joining Surrey, he was a Research Fellow at KAUST and the University of Bologna.
His research focuses on intelligent signal processing and optimization for communication systems, emphasizing bandwidth and EMF efficiency. Key areas include reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted communications, and compressed sensing. He designs systems that balance high-speed data transmission with reduced electromagnetic field radiation, leveraging tools from statistical signal processing and information theory.
Elzanaty supervises postgraduate students in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering and teaches the 'Internet of Things' module (COM3023). His publications span EMF-efficient networks, RIS-assisted localization, and MIMO systems. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at Surrey's PAI (People-Centred AI) Institute to advance next-generation communication technologies.
