Dr. Ahmad Kirmani is an Assistant Professor in the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at the College of Science, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). His office is located in BRN-1129, and he can be contacted via email at arksch@rit.edu or phone at 585-475-5192. He leads research in perovskite solar cells and radiation-tolerant materials for space applications.
His research focuses on radiation effects in photovoltaic materials, particularly perovskite and organic solar cells optimized for spacecraft. Key interests include radiation damage mechanisms, space-environment testing protocols, and nanoscale material behavior under extreme conditions. His work bridges materials chemistry, aerospace engineering, and renewable energy technology.
Recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a consistent focus on radiation tolerance in space photovoltaics, with studies appearing in Nature Communications, Joule, and ACS Photonics. These works explore proton irradiation effects, self-healing mechanisms, and testing methodologies for next-generation solar cells.
Dr. Kirmani secured significant research funding as co-lead of a $9.9 million U.S. Space Force University Consortium project on advanced space power and propulsion (SSTI-3). He regularly presents at international conferences like PVSPACE-24 and supervises graduate research through RIT's materials science and chemistry programs.
