Dr Ahmad Barakat is a Lecturer at the Department of Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) within the University of Birmingham. His expertise lies in the politics of the Middle East, with a focus on diplomacy, the Arab-Israeli conflict, refugee crisis, ISIS, Islamism, and extremism.
- Education: PhD in Political Science and International Studies (2019) from the University of Birmingham; MA in International Studies with Merit (2005) from the University of Leeds.
His research explores the intersection of Middle East politics with media narratives, global security, and socio-political dynamics. He has published in leading journals such as Oxford, Routledge, and the University of St. Andrews. He has also worked as a former Syrian diplomat, UN staff member, and human rights expert in the League of Arab States.
Current projects include studies on refugees and global security, alongside tutoring undergraduate students in International Relations of the Middle East, Strategy, Leadership, and Foreign Policy.
