Ahilya N. Sawh

Ahilya N. Sawh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto since May 2023. Her research focuses on the functional role of genome organization in cell fate decisions across biological scales from molecules to organisms. She bridges cell & developmental biology, computational biology, biochemistry, and systems biology to address fundamental questions about chromatin biology during embryonic development.

Her lab specializes in high-throughput image-based spatial omics and bioimage analysis, aiming to gain mechanistic insights into in vivo chromatin dynamics. She received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry with Molecular Biology specialization from McMaster University, followed by a PhD in RNAi mechanisms at McGill University's Department of Biochemistry, and postdoctoral training in nuclear organization at Harvard University's Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology and the University of Basel's Biozentrum.
