Agnes Berendsen

Agnes Berendsen is an Assistant Professor at Wageningen University & Research's Department of Human Nutrition and Health. She holds a PhD and has over ten years of experience in nutritional research, focusing on aging populations, dietary interventions, and bariatric surgery outcomes. She is also affiliated with Rijnstate-Vitalys in Arnhem, Netherlands, integrating nutrition research into bariatric surgery practices.

Education: BSc in Nutrition & Dietetics (2006), MSc in Nutrition and Health (2010) from Wageningen. Her PhD research addressed inflammageing through dietary interventions in European elderly populations.

Research interests include nutrient adequacy in aging, obesity treatment, pregnancy outcomes post-bariatric surgery, and mechanisms of weight loss. She collaborates on transnational projects like analyzing the Nurses’ Health Study (130k participants) and contributes to the ILSI expert group on dietary requirements.

Teaching: Leads MSc courses in epidemiology, including Analytical Epidemiology and Study Design, and supervises numerous BSc/MSc students. Active in educational innovation within nutrition science.

Current projects include RECENTRE (personalized healthcare via home monitoring) and MONUCO (obesity treatment efficacy studies).
