Agatha Hultquist is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Her research focuses on conflict studies, comparative politics, and international relations with specializations in civil war, terrorism, ethnic conflict, nonviolence, state repression, and authoritarian regimes. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Maryland-College Park (2019), an MA in International Studies from the University of Denver, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Connecticut.
Her research examines the interplay between non-state actors' political strategies and government responses, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. She has conducted field research in Sri Lanka and co-authored articles in Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and Ethnopolitics. Notable contributions include the AMAR (All Minorities at Risk) data project analyzing minority group mobilization.
Teaching interests include comparative politics, Middle Eastern government, and peace studies. She has presented research at the International Studies Association conferences and collaborated with colleagues on pedagogical innovations in political science education.
