Dr. Adrienne Socci is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine, with additional affiliation at the Yale Institute for Global Health. As a pediatric orthopedist, she treats a wide range of conditions from acute fractures to congenital issues requiring long-term monitoring such as hip dysplasia. Her clinical practice spans both pediatric and adult trauma care, focusing on restoring function for patients whose bodies are no longer working as they once did.
Dr. Socci completed her medical education at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2008, following a BA in Philosophy from Amherst College in 2001. Her clinical training includes residency at Yale New Haven Hospital (2013), followed by fellowships in Orthopedic Trauma at Auckland City Hospital (2014) and Pediatric Orthopedics at Starship Children's Hospital (2015).
Her research interests focus on pediatric orthopedics, orthopedic trauma, and international orthopedic partnerships, particularly addressing healthcare disparities in resource-poor settings. Dr. Socci has developed a special interest in global health after spending two years early in her career treating tuberculosis and HIV patients in Haiti, Peru, Rwanda and Siberia. She emphasizes that communication is as important as surgical skill, noting that 'you have to read people and know what kind of information they need' to effectively care for patients.
Dr. Socci's work demonstrates a strong commitment to improving orthopedic care both locally and globally, with particular attention to resource-limited settings. Her research has examined international academic partnerships, orthopedic care in Zimbabwe and Uganda, and the impact of global health initiatives on surgical care delivery.
She is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (2017) and is fluent in both English and Spanish, enhancing her ability to serve diverse patient populations.
