Adrienne Jankens is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Wayne State University (WSU), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She specializes in Writing Program Administration, Teacher Development, and Reflective Writing Pedagogy. Her research focuses on antiracist practices, first-year composition, and the intersection of pedagogy and social justice. Jankens holds a B.A. from Valparaiso University, an M.A. from Central Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from WSU.
She has received numerous awards, including the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2020) and the CLAS Social Justice Initiative Grant (2023–2024). Her recent publications explore topics like student peer mentorship, antiracist coalition-building, and structuration theory in teaching observations. She teaches courses such as Designing Research in Composition and Rhetoric and Introductory College Writing.
Jankens advocates for inquiry-based learning and reflective practices. Her work emphasizes creating safe, inclusive classroom environments that empower students through rhetorical responsibility and critical reflection. She collaborates on projects like the Composition Learning Community and contributes to professional development for writing instructors.
