Adrien Stoloff is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Humanities & Arts at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He joined WPI as part of a cohort of over 30 new faculty members announced in December 2021. His academic background includes a PhD in Religious Studies from Brown University and an MA in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University.
Professor Stoloff’s research focuses on Chinese religious beliefs and practices from the late Warring States Period (ca. 475-221 BCE) to the Western Han dynasty (202 BCE-9 CE), with particular emphasis on the classical Daoist concept of wuwei (effortless action). His scholarly work bridges historical analysis and philosophical inquiry into early Chinese thought.
