Dr. Adriana Diaconu is an Associate Professor at the Institut d'urbanisme de Grenoble, Université Grenoble Alpes, and a member of the PACTE UMR research unit of the CNRS. Her academic work focuses on urban planning with particular attention to social and cultural dimensions of urban heritage.
Dr. Diaconu's research examines urban action in relation to:
- Social issues connected to housing
- Cultural transmission challenges
- Intercultural relations in urban contexts
- Migrant communities' relationship to cultural heritage
- Territorial dimensions of heritage recognition
Her scholarly trajectory evolved from a 2010-2014 research project examining urban heritage representations across France, Romania, and Turkey, which culminated in a Paris colloquium on heritage claims and contestations. Currently, she coordinates research on migrant communities' entry into heritage frameworks, with specific focus on Roma populations navigating heritage recognition between Romania and France. Her work bridges urban studies, heritage studies, and migration research, offering critical perspectives on expanding cultural heritage frameworks to include diverse community experiences.
As a member of UMR PACTE (Political Actors, Choices, Territorialities, Europe), Dr. Diaconu contributes to interdisciplinary research examining political phenomena at various territorial scales within European contexts.
