Adrian Rodriguez-Contreras serves as an Associate Professor in the Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders within the School of Communication at Northwestern University. His research centers on developmental plasticity in the auditory brainstem, with a particular emphasis on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying brain injury due to oxygen deprivation in neonates and the subsequent long-term effects on sound processing and voice production.
Dr. Rodriguez-Contreras holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cincinnati and a BS in Biólogo from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding the neural basis of communication across institutional contexts including City University of New York prior to joining Northwestern.
His research portfolio spans Neurovascular function, Auditory Processing, Hearing, Infant Health, Audio-Visual Integration, and Developmental Plasticity, with critical focus on how neonatal oxygen deprivation disrupts auditory pathways. This work bridges fundamental neuroscience with clinical applications to address long-term functional consequences in sound processing and vocal development.
