Adrian J. Barker is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the School of Mathematics, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He has served as Director of Postgraduate Studies for Applied Mathematics and leads research in astrophysical fluid dynamics.

His primary research focuses on extrasolar planetary systems, tidal interactions between planets and stars, astrophysical disc dynamics, and waves/instabilities in stellar and planetary interiors. Current work includes studying turbulent convection, angular momentum transport, and differential rotation hydrodynamics.
Scientific awards include:
- Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship
- Fellowships at the Royal Astronomical Society and Higher Education Academy
- Memberships in the International and European Astronomical Unions
He supervises postgraduate researchers Matt Vine, Lucas Gosling, Sonny Burrell, and Krishna Kumar, and welcomes global PhD applicants interested in his research areas.
