Adrian Brasoveanu is a Professor in the Linguistics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He previously served as Associate Campus Provost for Strategic Initiatives before returning to faculty in 2024. His research focuses on formal semantics, computational psycholinguistics, and the integration of linguistic theories with cognitive architectures like ACT-R. He co-authored the open-access book *Computational Cognitive Modeling and Linguistic Theory* (2020), which bridges formal semantics and computational modeling.
Brasoveanu’s work emphasizes the cognitive plausibility of linguistic theories through mechanistic processing models. He leads the LaLoCo lab, exploring Bayesian methods, deep learning, and reinforcement learning in linguistic contexts. His teaching spans formal semantics, pragmatics, and quantitative methods, with a focus on computational tools like Haskell and Python.
His research spans syntactic parsing, quantifier scope, and discourse processing, with experimental studies on distributivity, lexical ambiguity, and medical text analysis. Brasoveanu actively contributes to interdisciplinary efforts, linking theoretical linguistics with cognitive science and data science.
