Aditya Bhattacharjee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (2023), an MA and BA (Hons) from McGill University. His research focuses on transnational Hinduism, Buddhism in Thailand, and global religious networks, with a particular interest in the interplay between Hindu and Buddhist traditions in Thailand. He is fluent in Thai, Bengali, Tamil, Hindi, French, and has studied Sanskrit and Pali.

His research employs multi-sited ethnography to explore migration patterns, religious practices, and material culture across Asia. Notably, he conducted fieldwork on Ganesha worship communities in Thailand’s Chachoengsao province, supported by the Khyentse Foundation. He is affiliated with the American Academy of Religion, Association for Asian Studies, and European Association for South Asian Studies.
Aditya has curated student exhibitions on religious art at RISD, such as the Celebration Exhibit, showcasing interdisciplinary collaborations between academia and visual arts.
