Adina L. Roskies

Adina L. Roskies is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Santa Barbara, affiliated with the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. She serves as Placement Director and Library Liaison for the Department. Her expertise spans cognitive neuroimaging, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, and neuroethics.

Education includes dual Ph.D.s: Neuroscience and Cognitive Science from UC San Diego (1995), and Philosophy from MIT (2004), alongside an M.S.L. from Yale Law School (2014), and multiple advanced degrees from UC San Diego. Prior to philosophy, she held a postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive neuroimaging at Washington University and was Senior Editor at Neuron.

Her research bridges neuroscience and philosophy, focusing on ethical implications of neurotechnology and foundational questions in mind-brain science. Awards include the William James Prize and Mellon Fellowship. She co-authored A Primer on Criminal Law and Neuroscience with Stephen Morse, and contributed to initiatives like the McDonnell Project in Neurophilosophy and the MacArthur Law and Neuroscience Project.

Advising and grants: As Placement Director, she supports graduate student career development. Notable affiliations include interdisciplinary collaborations in law, neuroscience, and ethics. She has held visiting fellowships at Princeton's Center for Human Values.
