Adi Saleem

Adi Saleem is Assistant Professor of Romance Languages and Literature at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the Center for Middle Eastern & North African Studies, Global Islamic Studies Center, and Center for Southeast Asian Studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, MA from Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, and BA from Boston University.

His research examines the intersection of race and religion, focusing on Jews and Muslims in contemporary France. Current projects include a manuscript on antisemitism and Islamophobia (Beyond Jews and Muslims) and a study on conversion/apostasy from Islam. His work explores colonial legacies, identity politics, and media representations of religious minorities.

Publications consistently analyze themes of religious identity, postcolonial dynamics, and Jewish-Muslim relations in French contexts. Research employs discourse analysis of media, cultural texts, and personal narratives to understand mechanisms of religious and racial discrimination.
