University of Illinois Urbana-Champaignمعرفی
Adeoye Adeyemo serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Education Policy, Organization & Leadership Department within the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a secondary appointment as Assistant Professor at the Center for African Studies. His academic appointments reflect his interdisciplinary research bridging educational policy, race studies, and sports sociology.
Dr. Adeyemo earned his B.S. in Finance and M.A. in Education from the University of Illinois, followed by a Ph.D. in Social Foundations of Education from the University of Georgia. His educational background informs his unique scholarly perspective as a former collegiate scholar-athlete, financial advisor, and Southside Chicago resident.
Adeyemo's research critically examines how neighborhood contexts, schooling environments, and cultural forces shape the aspirations of Black male student-athletes. His work employs Critical Race Theory and place-based frameworks to understand the educational trajectories of Black adolescents in sports. Recent publications in journals including Urban Education, The Urban Review, and Race Ethnicity and Education demonstrate his commitment to advancing scholarship on race, place, and sports in educational settings. His research agenda extends to examining STEM engagement among Black male athletes and mental health implications of football participation.
Dr. Adeyemo teaches courses across the education curriculum including EPS 590 (Advanced Graduate Seminar), EPS 202 (Foundations of Education), EPOL 550 (Methods of Educational Inquiry), and EPS 536 (Race, Gender and Sexuality Issues). His teaching reflects his commitment to addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion through examining how race, gender, and class dynamics manifest in U.S. public schooling.
Leveraging his multiple identities—including former college football player, Black male, and researcher—Adeyemo forges meaningful connections with youth of color. His scholarship bridges academic research with community engagement, particularly in urban contexts where he examines the social determinants of health and educational outcomes for Black youth.
