Adeline Gouttenoire is a Professor of Private Law and Criminal Sciences at the University of Bordeaux, where she is affiliated with the Faculty of Law and the Department of Private Law and Criminal Sciences. She serves as Deputy Director of Cerfaps (European Center for Research in Family, Insurance, Personal and Health Law) and has directed the Institute for Minors since 2006. Since 2009, she has chaired the departmental observatory for child protection in Gironde and has been an ad hoc administrator representing children in civil and criminal proceedings.
Her research focuses on the rights of minors, spanning family law, European law, and child protection. Key areas include the legal status of children born through surrogacy abroad and the rights of unaccompanied minors in France. She explores how children can be involved in judicial decisions affecting them and addresses ethical-legal questions around child health and end-of-life decisions.
The available publications reflect a strong trend in legal reform and child protection policy, particularly in juvenile rights, age assessment methods, and systemic improvements in adoption and foster care. Her work bridges academic research with direct policy impact, notably through her 2014 report to the Ministry of Family that influenced the 2016 French law on child protection.
Adeline Gouttenoire is actively engaged in public discourse, contributing to media outlets such as Sud-Ouest and L'Express on issues including child welfare systems, repatriation of children of French jihadists, and adoption reform. While no formal awards are listed, her leadership in national legal reform and ongoing institutional roles underscore her recognition in the field.
She supervises research through her leadership at Cerfaps and the Institute for Minors, contributing to legal training and policy development. Her work is supported by institutional affiliations and government collaborations, particularly in advancing child protection frameworks.
She is involved in multiple research teams and observatories, including the departmental observatory for child protection in Gironde and Cerfaps, where interdisciplinary research on family, insurance, and health law is conducted.
