معرفی
Dr. Adam Verrender is a Research Fellow at the School of Psychology, University of Wollongong, where he has been employed since 2021. He is a member of the Australian Centre for Electromagnetic Bioeffects Research (ACEBR) human neurophysiology research group, contributing to cutting-edge research on electromagnetic field effects on human health and cognition.
Dr. Verrender completed his academic training at the University of Wollongong, earning a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) followed by a PhD in 2018. His doctoral research focused on investigating the possible determinants of Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance attributed to Electromagnetic Fields, commonly known as Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity.
Dr. Verrender's research interests span several interconnected domains within psychological and neurophysiological science. His primary focus is on investigating the effect of radiofrequency exposure on human brain function (EEG), cognition, and emotion processing, and the mechanisms associated with these effects. He has developed significant expertise in psychophysiology and cognitive neuroscience methodologies, particularly in measuring physiological responses to electromagnetic field exposure. His work often examines the interplay between psychological factors (such as expectations and beliefs) and physiological responses, with particular attention to the nocebo effect in the context of electromagnetic field exposure. Additionally, Dr. Verrender has contributed to broader public health initiatives, particularly in developing national guidelines related to children's movement behaviors, sleep duration, and screen time.
Dr. Verrender's publication record demonstrates a consistent research trajectory focused on electromagnetic field bioeffects and health psychology. His work combines rigorous experimental methodology with practical applications for public health policy. A notable trend in his research is the examination of how risk communication and media framing influence physiological and psychological responses to electromagnetic field exposure, bridging the gap between technical bioelectromagnetics research and public understanding.
Dr. Verrender has received recognition for his contributions to the field, including:
- Joseph James Morrissey Memorial Award from the Bioelectromagnetics Society and European Bioelectromagnetics Association (2017)
Dr. Verrender has been involved in significant research funding, including the "Misinformation and the stress response" project (2022-2022) through the Electromagnetic Energy (EME) Program, which investigated how alarmist media reports affect acute stress responses related to electromagnetic fields. While his primary role appears to be as a researcher rather than a primary supervisor, he has contributed to collaborative projects that have shaped Australian health policy, particularly regarding movement guidelines for children and adolescents. At the University of Wollongong, he served as Head Tutor for PSYC359 Psychopharmacology starting in 2021.
As a member of the Australian Centre for Electromagnetic Bioeffects Research (ACEBR) human neurophysiology research group, Dr. Verrender collaborates with a multidisciplinary team investigating the biological and psychological effects of electromagnetic fields. His work contributes to ACEBR's mission of conducting world-class research on electromagnetic bioeffects to inform evidence-based policy and practice.
