Adam Van Doren is a Lecturer in the Humanities at Yale College, specializing in art, architecture, and American cultural history. He teaches courses such as 'Mastering the Art of Watercolor: Classic Techniques from Turner to Hopper' and has authored five books, including The Stones of Yale and In the Founder’s Footsteps: Landmarks of the American Revolution. His artwork is featured in institutions like the Yale University Art Gallery and Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. He has directed documentary films on James Thurber and Harold Ross for PBS.
- Education: B.A. in Architecture (Columbia University, 1984); M.Arch. (Columbia School of Architecture, 1990).
His research interests span art technique preservation, architectural heritage, and American historical narratives. He actively engages students through workshops, exhibitions in Davenport Art Gallery, and informal discussions in his office shared with Prof. Gitlin.
