Dr. Adam Thomas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Warwick. His research focuses on algebraic groups, Lie algebras, finite groups of Lie type, representation theory, and topological aspects of Lie groups. He has held a prestigious EPSRC New Investigator Award from 2022 to 2025. His work includes seminal contributions to the classification of extremely primitive groups, maximal subgroups of exceptional algebraic groups, and the extension of Jacobson-Morozov theorems to new contexts.
Recent research highlights include studies on monogamous subvarieties of nilpotent cones, topological invariants of homogeneous spaces, and the structure of epimorphic subgroups. His collaborative projects often involve experts like D. Stewart, S. Goodwin, and T. Burness. He actively participates in workshops such as AGGC: Algebraic Groups on the Grand Canal and the Algebraic Lie Theory network.
Publications span high-impact journals including the Journal of the London Mathematical Society, Pacific Journal of Mathematics, and Memoirs of the AMS. His work bridges algebraic, geometric, and topological perspectives, with a focus on exceptional groups and their subgroup structures.
