Dr. Adam Monier is a Senior Research Fellow and Royal Society University Research Fellow at the Living Systems Institute, University of Exeter, specializing in marine microbiology, virology, and bioinformatics. His research explores the ecology and evolution of microbial eukaryotes and viruses in oceanic environments.
Education:
- BSc in Cell Biology (2001–2004)
- MSc in Bioinformatics, Structural Biology, and Genomics (2004–2006)
- PhD in Bioinformatics (2006–2009)
Research Focus: Adam’s work integrates 'omics tools to study viral impacts on phytoplankton physiology, horizontal gene transfer in marine ecosystems, and the effects of sea ice loss on Arctic microbial communities. His expertise spans microbial/viral ecology, evolutionary biology, and computational methods in oceanography.
Scientific Awards:
- Royal Society University Research Fellow (since 2018)
- Royal Society Newton Fellowship (2014–2016)
Affiliations: Adam collaborates with institutions including Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), Université Laval, and Takuvik CNRS International Laboratory. He is part of the Environmental Intelligence and Exeter Marine research networks at the University of Exeter.
