Adam Ledgeway

Adam Ledgeway is a Professor of Italian and Romance Linguistics at the University of Bergamo (since 2024), following a 21-year career at the University of Cambridge (2001–2023), where he held roles from University Assistant Lecturer to Professor. His research spans comparative Romance linguistics, dialectology, morphosyntactic theory, historical linguistics, and language contact, with a focus on southern Italian dialects and Greek-Romance interactions.

Education: PhD (1996), MA with distinction (1993), and BA First Class (1992) from the University of Manchester.

Research Interests: Ledgeway’s work bridges diachronic and synchronic analysis, examining phenomena like verb movement, complementation systems, differential object marking, and phonology-syntax interfaces. He has extensively studied Greek-Romance contact in southern Italy and parametric microvariation across dialects.
