Adam Kruse is an Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the College of Fine and Applied Arts and the School of Music. His work focuses on integrating hip-hop culture and music technology into school curricula. Kruse co-directs the Illinois Hip Hop Camp, Street College: Studio Saturdays, and the Hip Hop Innovation Center. He earned his Ph.D. from Michigan State University and degrees from Ball State University.
His research explores hip-hop music learning and cultural engagements in educational settings, emphasizing equity and student-centered pedagogy. Kruse has received numerous awards, including the 2014 Outstanding Dissertation Award and the 2021 Campus Distinguished Promotion Award. His projects, such as the Hip Hop Xpress initiative, have secured grants addressing systemic inequities and received recognition for public engagement.
