معرفی
Adam Jones is an Early Career Researcher and Lecturer in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, specializing in Engineering Research and Innovation. Holding a PhD in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET). His work bridges academic research with industrial applications in precision measurement and signal processing.
His educational background includes:
- MEng(Hons) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
- PhD in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, with thesis on "Development of a Novel, Non-Destructive Technique for In-Line Coating Thickness Measurement of Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steel"
Dr. Jones' research spans Digital Signal Processing, Image Processing, Internet of Things (IoT), and Electromagnetic Radiation manipulation. He develops cutting-edge instrumentation for nano-micro scale surface analysis and coating thickness measurement through collaborations with Tata Steel UK, Applied Automation Ltd, and Airflo Fishing Products Ltd. His fingerprint reveals expertise in Plasmonics, Optical Fiber Sensors, and Thickness Measurement with applications in polymer and metallic materials.
His publication trend shows increasing focus on optical sensing systems and laser-based metrology, particularly in developing mode-hop-free tunable lasers and non-invasive biomedical sensors. These works demonstrate strong interdisciplinary integration of photonics, signal processing, and industrial instrumentation.
His scientific contributions have been recognized with:
- Engagement and Impact Awards 2024
- Non-Destructive Surface Roughness Analysis Award (2024)
- IET Impact in Society Awards shortlist (2023)
- Welsh STEM Awards for Best Research Project (2023)
Dr. Jones actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students on IoT, DSP, and measurement technology projects. His research is funded through industry collaborations including Tata Steel UK (2015-2023), Applied Automation Ltd (2022-present), and Airflo Fishing Products Ltd (2022-2023), resulting in multiple lab-scale prototypes for surface roughness analysis and LP-WAN IoT measurement systems. Current projects include "Novel Technique for Surface Roughness Analysis of Polyurethane Based Fly-Fishing Lines" (2022-present).
As part of the Engineering Research and Innovation Group, he operates advanced laboratories for photonic sensor development and DSP algorithm testing, with recent work focusing on UV glue-filled interferometers and optical fiber integrated sensing patches for real-world industrial and biomedical applications.
