Adam Hitchcock is a Professor at McMaster University and a Guest Researcher at LINXS (International Institute for Advanced Neutron and X-ray Science) since 2021. His research spans over four decades, focusing on inner shell excitation spectroscopies and spectromicroscopies, including pioneering work in soft X-ray transmission microscopes (STXM) and photoemission microscopes (PEEM). He has contributed to the development of synchrotron facilities worldwide, such as the Canadian Light Source (CLS) in Saskatoon.
- B.Sc. in Chemistry from McMaster University (1974)
- Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from the University of British Columbia (UBC, 1978)
His research interests include:
- Inner shell spectroscopy techniques (EELS, STXM, PEEM)
- In situ electrochemistry and magnetic bacteria analysis
- Catalyst development for CO2 reduction
- Applications in automotive fuel cell materials
Scientific contributions recognized through:
- Fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC, 2006)
He has maintained long-standing involvement in synchrotron science, starting with hard X-ray experiments at Cornell (1980s) and leading the establishment of CLS spectromicroscopy facilities.
