Adam Bryx is a Lecturer in Literature and Environmental Humanities at the University of California, Merced, affiliated with the Literatures in English Program. He specializes in modern and avant-garde theatre, with research interests spanning Theatre and Performance, Surrealism, Science Fiction, and Environmental Literature.
Dr. Bryx earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in English Literature from Lakehead University and his Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the University of California, Irvine. His academic background informs his teaching of courses on theatre, Surrealism, and speculative fiction in the English Literature and Environmental Humanities program.
His research focuses on theatre history and post-dramatic and intermedial trends in theatre practice. He has published scholarly articles in these areas, contributing to contemporary discourse on experimental theatrical forms. His work bridges academic scholarship with creative practice through his theatre company.
Dr. Bryx is also an active practitioner in the arts community, having founded and directed Kraken Theatre, an experimental theatre company local to Merced. His productions blend historical theatrical forms with contemporary environmental concerns, demonstrating his commitment to the environmental humanities.
