Dr. Adam Bartnik is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Hydrology and Water Management, Institute of Climatology and Hydrology, Faculty of Geographical Sciences at the University of Lodz, Poland. His academic position involves both research and teaching responsibilities in various aspects of hydrology and water management.
Dr. Bartnik's educational background includes a PhD in Geography completed at the University of Lodz (2003). His professional career has been centered at the University of Lodz since 1994, where he has served as a Lecturer and Research Assistant in the Faculty of Geography and Department of Hydrology and Water Management.
Research Interests:
- Hydrology and water management
- Application of computer techniques in physical geography and hydroinformatics
- Water circulation in urban and suburban areas
- Temporal and spatial variability of river outflows
- Extreme hydrological phenomena (droughts and floods)
- Runoff modeling
- Historical changes in the water cycle in Łódź and the region
Dr. Bartnik's publication record demonstrates consistent output over two decades, with approximately 68 publications documented in institutional records and 38 listed on ResearchGate. His research shows a clear trajectory from fundamental hydrological studies toward increasingly urban-focused water research, particularly examining the impacts of urbanization on river systems in and around Łódź. His work combines field measurements with hydrological modeling approaches.
Scientific Recognition:
- ECDL EPP GIS Certificate confirming advanced GIS skills
- ORCID identifier: 0000-0003-3726-5427
- Publications indexed in major databases (Scopus, Web of Science, ResearchGate)
Dr. Bartnik has supervised 33 bachelor's and 17 master's theses, demonstrating his commitment to student education and mentorship. His teaching portfolio spans hydrology, water management, physical geography of Poland and the world, computer science, and GIS. He has also contributed to academic textbooks and popular science articles for students, teachers, and the general public.
His current research appears to be increasingly interdisciplinary, bridging hydrology with urban planning and transportation engineering, particularly in examining how urban floods impact city infrastructure and transport systems.
