Ada Johnson-Kanu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Kentucky, with affiliate positions in African American and Africana Studies and International Studies. Her research examines how historical and contemporary events shape distributive politics in developing democracies.
Her current book project, 'Dividing the National Cake: Ethnic Representation and Policy Implementation in the Nigerian Civil Service,' investigates colonial legacies in bureaucratic representation and public goods provision. This work earned the 2022 APSA REP Section Best Dissertation Award.
Dr. Johnson-Kanu's research spans colonial administration legacies, ethnic representation in bureaucracies, state violence, and electoral accountability in African contexts. She teaches comparative politics and political economy courses.
