Abraham Matta is a Professor of Computer Science at Boston University, where he previously served as Chair of the Department (2018-2024). He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park (1995). His research focuses on network protocols, architectures, and performance evaluation across domains like wireless, cloud, and distributed systems. He leads the DASNet and NRG research groups at BU and currently serves as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (on temporary leave from BU).
Key achievements include the NSF CAREER Award (1997), multiple best-paper awards (2008, 2010, 2021), and awards for contributions to the GENI and FABRIC testbeds (2018, 2023). He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers and actively contributes to academic leadership roles, including committee chairs for major conferences (e.g., IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols, 2005).
He is affiliated with the Hariri Institute for Computing Systems Engineering and the Center for Reliable Information Systems and Cyber Security (RISCS). His work emphasizes innovative solutions in network design, energy-efficient systems, and experimental testbeds.
