Abhishek Singharoy

Abhishek Singharoy is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University (ASU), primarily affiliated with the School of Molecular Sciences and the Biodesign Center for Applied Structural Discovery. His research focuses on computational biophysics, structural biology, and algorithm development for understanding biological systems at atomic precision. Key areas include membrane protein dynamics, energy conversion mechanisms in cellular systems, and flexible-fitting tools for crystallographic and cryo-EM data analysis.

He has held prestigious fellowships and awards, including the Beckman Postdoctoral Fellowship (2013–2016), NSF Physics of Living Cells Postdoctoral Fellowship (2016–2017), and the Scialog Fellowship (2018). His work has been recognized through awards such as the Best Visualization Showcase at the 2014 High Performance Computing Conference and the INCITE Leadership Computing Award from the U.S. Department of Energy (2017–2019).

Singharoy’s research integrates statistical mechanics, molecular dynamics (MD), and Brownian Dynamics (BD) simulations to study complex biological systems. His lab developed tools like xMDFF and resolution-exchange MDFF for structure determination from low-resolution experimental data. Current projects explore evolutionary design principles of mitochondrial respiration and functional pathways of biomolecules from cryo-EM snapshots.

He actively contributes to academic governance as an executive member of the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility Users Board (2017–2020) and sponsors the Arizona chapter of the Biophysical Society. His teaching includes courses on research techniques and biophysical chemistry, reflecting his commitment to both education and computational research.
