Abhisheak Sharma is an Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the Translational Drug Development Core at the University of Florida's College of Pharmacy. He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacokinetics & Metabolism and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Mississippi and University of Florida. His expertise spans in vitro/in vivo pharmacokinetics, bioanalytical method development, and translational drug development, with a focus on natural products like kratom and cannabinoids.
Education: B.Pharm. (Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, 2006), M.Pharm. (U.P. Technical University, 2008), Ph.D. (CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, 2015).
Research Interests: Pharmacokinetics of alkaloids, drug-drug interactions, pharmacokinetic modeling, bioanalysis of natural products, and cannabinoid neuropharmacology. His work addresses emerging substances like kratom and delta-8 THC, investigating their clinical applications, safety, and pharmacology.
Awards: Media Excellence Award (2024), UF/IFAS High Impact Research Award (2021), Novartis Senior Research Fellowship (2011-2015), and MHRD-Postgraduate Fellowship (2006-2008).
He leads grants on opioid use disorders, stimulant treatments, and kratom's effects during pregnancy. Over 60 peer-reviewed articles and one book chapter highlight his contributions to drug development and pharmacology.
