Abhijit Mukherjee is a John Curtin Distinguished Professor at Curtin University's School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He specializes in sustainable engineering practices, structural health monitoring, and infrastructure rehabilitation. His research focuses on developing sustainable materials, assessing infrastructure health using advanced techniques like laser ultrasonics, and mitigating contamination in groundwater systems.
Key research projects include the ARC Linkage Project on laser ultrasonic health monitoring (2015) and bacterial-based sustainable materials (2013). He has advised on numerous infrastructure rehabilitation projects, such as the Naini Bridge and Sikkim earthquake rehabilitation (2008–2013). His work bridges structural engineering with environmental science, addressing global challenges like arsenic contamination and climate change impacts on groundwater.
Publications span over 200 articles in journals like Environmental Science & Technology, Science of the Total Environment, and Groundwater for Sustainable Development. His research emphasizes machine learning applications, geochemical processes, and policy-driven solutions for water security.
