Abena Aidoo Hewton

Dr. Abena Aidoo Hewton is an Associate Professor in the Tourism & Events Management (TEM) program at George Mason University's School of Sport, Recreation, and Tourism Management. She also serves as a Talent Equity Advisor in the Office of Inclusive Excellence within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). Her roles include certifying search applicant pools for inclusive excellence goals and leading initiatives such as the Official Guide to Inclusive Excellence in Recruitment and Hiring. She is the creator of the web series In the Know with Dr. Aidoo, fostering community engagement among faculty, staff, and students.

Dr. Aidoo Hewton holds a PhD in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from the University of Delaware, an MHRD from Clemson University, and a BA in Economics and Psychology from the University of Ghana. Her professional journey includes roles at the U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana, where she organized major events and received recognition for her contributions.

Teaching and Service
Dr. Aidoo Hewton teaches courses such as Introduction to Tourism Management and Women and Tourism. She previously revitalized the TEM program's internship and practicum curricula, enhancing student and industry partnerships. Her service extends to roles like Fieldwork Experience Coordinator and Board Member of the Prince William Chapter of the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging, and Travel Association.
